The reverse: the portrait of A.K. Savrasov and a palette with paint-brushes against a background of a fragment of his picture «The Rooks Have Come Back». Below to the left in two lines – the dates «1830» and «1897», at the bottom – the painter’s facsimile signature.
Aleksey Kondratiyevich Savrasov (1830-1897) – Russian painter, member of the democratic group of the Russian school of realist painters of the second half of the XIXth century named Peredvizhniki, one of the fathers of the Russian realist landscape painting – reproduced the poetic beauty of the Russian nature and significance of the daily urban and country life («The Rooks Have Come Back», «The View of the Kremlin by Foul Weather», «The Elk Island in Sokolniki»).
The obverse: the two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — «ДВА РУБЛЯ 1997 г.» (TWO RUBLES 1997), at the bottom — «БАНК РОССИИ» (BANK OF RUSSIA). The letters below indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the fine metal content and the mint trademark.
