Diego Velázquez (1465-1524), born at Cuellar, Spain, was part of 2nd. Columbus voyage, and was 1st. governor of Cuba (as Lieutenant governor), till his death. Was founder of several cities at La Española island (currently shared by Haiti and Dominican Republic), and at Cuba, including Baracoa, Bayamo, Santiago de Cuba, Trinidad, Camagüey, Sancti Spiritu, Havana and Remedios. The house of Diego Velázquez still exists at Santiago de cuba, and currently is a museum, containing Velazquez's articles and others from the same times.
